Bluffing is a big part of playing poker and if executed properly and successfully can decimate your opponents and give you a great table image. The rest of your fellow players will be wary of you when you bet big and represent that you have something - even if you do not. But just how does one bluff. Here are a few pointers which may help you. Do not bluff too often and pick your moments using your table position and when you sense weakness in your opponent. Also chose carefully which of your opponents you will attempt to bluff. No point making a move on a player who will not be pushed off a hand regardless. Learn to identify such players and target your bluffs accordingly. Believe in yourself. Think positively when you go for it especially when playing live in the casino or poker club. Positive power of thought will project through your general demeanour and make you appear confident even if you are not. Your opponents looking for a tell may well be fooled in to thinking you really have that magic hand and fold even if you have rags. If you are not confident this can project itself too and your opponents will pick up that you are trying it on. Prepare to wave goodbye to your chips. Throw the others off the scent by being a consistent bluffer. That means when you do make a move do so in a consistent way. Bet the same and mirror your mannerisms in just the same way when you do have a great hand. Your opponent will not know where you are coming from. Conversely a large over bet when attempting a bluff can be picked up on as a move so out of your general table image that your bluff will be called. Do not try it on too early after you sit at the table especially in tournament poker play. Take your time to size up your opponents and there styles of play. Size them up and mentally note down your potential targets for a bluff and who is likely to be pushed off a hand. You do need to develop your bluffing skills to be a good poker player so do take the opportunity to do so. It will not always work and you will lose some however you will win plenty of hands as well. And it feels good too. |
